Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh has addressed the recent controversy regarding his upcoming film ‘Sardaar Ji 3’, which stars Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, alongside the backlash following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir earlier this year. During the opening show of his AURA tour in Malaysia, Dosanjh responded to criticism, highlighting what he referred to as “double standards”. He stated, “Oh mere desh da Jhanda hain. When I shot for the film, matches were being played. After that, the tragic Pahalgam terror attack happened. At that time, and even now, we have always prayed that the terrorists should receive strict punishment.
The difference is that my film was shot before the attack, and the match was played after the attack.” His comments came during the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, referencing the India-Pakistan matches that occurred nearly four months after the Pahalgam incident. Amid rising tensions, some in the Indian film industry, including the Film Federation of India, called for a boycott of ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ and of Dosanjh for collaborating with Pakistani talent. In an emotional part of his speech, Dosanjh addressed claims of being “anti-national,” labeling them as hurtful and unfounded. He stated, “Punjabis and especially the Sikh community, can never go against the country,” which elicited loud cheers from the audience. “I have many answers, but I kept silent.
Just because someone says something about you, doesn’t mean you take that poison inside you. I’ve learned to stay quiet. I have many things to say, but I won’t. Not now.” His remarks received applause from the thousands present at his Kuala Lumpur concert, with many sharing clips online that quickly gained traction. Dosanjh also critiqued the national media for attempting to portray him as anti-national, asserting that Punjabis and the Sikh community would never oppose the nation. Looking ahead, in addition to his AURA Tour, he has wrapped up filming for ‘Border 2’, directed by Anurag Singh, which features a notable cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty.
The film is scheduled to be released on January 23, 2026.
