New Delhi, May 9 (). A team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from Gujarat raided the house of bookie Anil Jaisinghani at Ulhasnagar in Thane on Tuesday.
He is currently in ED custody in the Prevention of Money Laundering (PMLA) case. A PMLA case was registered against Jaisinghani in 2015 by the Gujarat ED.
Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, had lodged a case of extortion of Rs 10 crore against Jaisinghani at the Malabar Hill police station. In this case the bookie has been arrested and kept in Taloja Jail.
The ED had taken Jaisinghani into its custody in April for questioning in the PMLA case. In 2015, the ED began probing a money laundering case involving influential bookies operating primarily from Mumbai and Gujarat. This case was worth several thousand crores.
JP Singh, Joint Director of ED’s Ahmedabad Zone, was instrumental in busting the bookie’s syndicate and was leading the investigation. However, Jaisinghani faced corruption charges and was later arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Jaisinghani had leveled corruption charges against Singh which led to his arrest.
