New Delhi: Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India’s energy transition is advancing rapidly and creating avenues for farmers to boost their earnings, according to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. He praised the impact of 2G Bio-ethanol plants in Golaghat, Assam, on the rural economy, noting that the facility serves as a significant advantage for farmers in the Northeast. “Guided by PM @narendramodi, India’s energy transition is not just about adopting green fuels but also about enhancing farmers’ prosperity and income,” the minister remarked on his official X profile. He emphasized that the 2G Bio-ethanol plant at @NRL_MoPNG in Golaghat is transforming the rural economy and benefiting farmers across the region.
Previously, the Union Minister pointed out that India’s ethanol revolution is a transformative force, enhancing farmers’ incomes, generating employment opportunities, saving the nation billions in foreign exchange, and lowering its carbon footprint. According to the Union Minister, India’s ethanol initiative has added Rs 1,07,580 crore to farmers’ earnings while saving Rs 1,26,210 crore in foreign exchange by limiting crude oil imports. He further stated that the government’s ethanol efforts are in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming ‘annadatas’ (food producers) into ‘urjadatas’ (energy producers). “This initiative not only raises farmers’ incomes and creates jobs but also conserves foreign exchange and positively impacts the environment,” Puri stated on social media.
The northeastern region will significantly gain from a bamboo-based bio-ethanol refinery in Assam, which is nearing completion as part of this green transformation. This new bio-refinery is expected to produce 49 kilotonnes annually (KTPA) and will enhance the livelihoods of nearly 30,000 rural families in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Nagaland by utilizing bamboo, often referred to as “green gold,” for ethanol production. Minister Puri also shared images of the site, highlighting it as a symbol of sustainable development that merges environmental stewardship with economic growth.
