New Delhi, April 17 (). A court on Monday extended the judicial custody of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia by two weeks in an excise policy case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Special Judge M.K. The ED had earlier submitted in the Nagpal Rouse Avenue court that Sisodia had planted fabricated e-mails to show that there was public acceptance for the policy.
The ED’s counsel, opposing the bail plea, had said, “We have evidence that Sisodia had planted the e-mails.” These have been received not only in the official e-mail account of the Excise Department but also in his personal e-mail account. The content of the e-mail was given by Sisodia, which suits his agenda.
The fabricated e-mails were sent to show that there was public acceptance of the policy. It is a sham endorsement, an illegal ecosystem created to benefit liquor cartels in lieu of kickbacks.
ED’s special public prosecutor Zoheb Hussain then told the judge that the agency wanted to show him the case diary.
On this, Sisodia’s lawyer had said that this should not be done in secrecy.
The lawyer said, the sealed cover business must go. If something is used against me, I am deprived of my liberty, if they are counting on something behind my back, then it should be applied to me as well.
However, the investigating agency said that 60 days have not yet elapsed to complete the probe against him.
ED said, we will place it before you after 60 days.
After this, the court adjourned the hearing in the bail matter for Tuesday.
