After a three-year break, Facebook is re-entering the employment sector by reinstating its local job listings feature, indicating Meta’s renewed effort to link communities with tangible opportunities. This feature, which was discontinued in 2022, is now available across the United States, enabling users to discover entry-level, trade, and service jobs in their neighborhoods. Meta states that the revamped feature aims to simplify job discovery and enhance local engagement, providing a platform for job seekers and small businesses to interact within the Facebook ecosystem. The company has confirmed that job listings are accessible through Marketplace, Groups, and Pages, where users can browse openings, apply directly, or reach out to potential employers via Messenger.
This initiative signals Meta’s intention to compete with LinkedIn, albeit with a focus on community rather than corporate roles. Facebook aims to assist individuals in finding local, entry-level, and trade jobs—areas often overlooked by conventional professional networking sites. According to an official blog post, “If you’re looking for entry-level, trade, and service industry employment in your community, Facebook can help you connect with local people and small businesses who are hiring. Jobs on Facebook are public and visible to all adults 18 years and older.” The revamped feature allows employers, especially small businesses, to post job openings in an easy-to-use format. Job listings can include essential information such as pay, working hours, and qualifications, similar to product listings in Marketplace.
By default, these listings are visible to all adult Facebook users in a specific area, facilitating effortless connections between local employers and job seekers. For job seekers, the application process is simple: they must open the Facebook app or website, go to the Marketplace tab, and select the Jobs section. They can apply relevant filters like job type, category, or distance. Once they find a suitable position, they can either apply directly or start a Messenger chat with the employer for more details. Employers can create listings through Marketplace, their Facebook Page, or the Meta Business Suite, including job-specific information such as pay rates and responsibilities.
Meta has specified that some positions cannot be posted, with eligibility information available in its support resources. The Local Jobs feature is currently fully operational across the U.S., marking a significant return for one of Facebook’s more practical community tools. Meta has also indicated plans to extend this feature beyond the U.S. in the future, potentially paving the way for a new wave of localized hiring globally. With this relaunch, Facebook seems to be merging social and professional realms once again, focusing more on community-driven employment and real-world connections.
