New Delhi, May 8 (). In the case of top gangster Tillu Tajpuria (33) being stabbed to death by assailants in Tihar Jail, the Delhi High Court on Monday sought response of the prison authorities on the steps taken to prevent such crimes.
A bench of Justice Jasmeet Singh was hearing a plea by Tajpuria’s father and brother seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the murder and protection to them.
Justice Singh, after going through the incident captured on CCTV cameras installed inside the jail, said that it was seen that Tajpuria was taken out of his cell and stabbed to death.
He said, it is not understood why the authorities did not take any action if the entire incident was captured in CCTV cameras.
Justice Singh told Tihar Jail authorities, completely unacceptable situation.
The footage has raised many questions about the level of security inside Tihar Jail and the extremely sluggish action taken by the authorities to stop the violence.
Tajpuria has been kept on the ground floor of jail number 8 in Tihar Jail amid tight security.
The court ordered that the Director General of Prisons, Tihar Jail, file a reply within a week, indicating how the four knives were present in the jail premises and why no action was taken if the incident was captured on CCTV cameras.
The court ordered the filing of a status report indicating the accountability of the jail officials responsible for the lapse.
The Jail Superintendent was directed by Justice Singh to remain present in the court on the next date of hearing on May 25.
The counsel for Tajpuria’s father and brother said during the hearing that there was a collusion between the jail staff and those responsible for the gangster’s murder.
Justice Singh said, what is happening? I can’t understand. What is happening here? How can you allow this? Is there justice system here or not? How does this happen under your supervision?
Additional standing counsel Rahul Tyagi, appearing for the state, told the court that it was a case of enmity between gangsters and the matter was under investigation.
The court has also given protection to Tajpuria’s father and brother.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Akshat Kaushal, said the jail staff revealed that Deepak alias Teetar (31), Yogesh alias Ganda (30), Rajesh alias Tunda (42) and Riyaz Khan (39) attacked Tajpuria with sharp knives. was attacked. When Rohit tried to intervene, he too was attacked. As a result of which he was injured.
Tajpuria was an accused in the 2021 Rohini Court shootout, in which rival gangster Jitendra Gogi was killed.
