Google is enhancing video editing capabilities in Drive with a new shortcut that links directly to Google Vids. Workspace users can now edit videos more conveniently without the need to manually open files in Vids. When users preview a saved video in Drive, an “Open” button will appear in the top-right corner. Clicking this button will launch the file directly in Google Vids, allowing users to trim clips, add text, insert music, and make other quick edits. This shortcut is enabled by default but can be disabled by Workspace administrators. Google started rolling out this feature on August 21st, although it may take more than two weeks for all users to access it.
This update continues Google’s enhancements for Drive videos, following the introduction of a redesigned video player last year and Gemini AI-powered summaries in May. The new shortcut enhances Drive’s convenience for quick editing and collaborative workflows.
