Google has revealed a significant AI enhancement for Google Photos. The application now includes new tools for photo editing and searching. This update incorporates Google’s Nano Banana AI model and is accessible in more than 100 countries and 17 languages. Previously, AI editing was exclusive to Pixel 10 users, but now all Google Photos users can edit images using voice or text commands. Users can request actions like, ‘Remove sunglasses’ or ‘Make everyone smile,’ and the AI detects faces to edit each one seamlessly. Additionally, it can apply unique styles to render photos in an artistic or cinematic manner. The app now features AI templates for quickly creating collages and themed edits, located under the Create tab.
A new ‘Ask’ button allows users to interact with Google Photos verbally to search or edit, with examples such as, ‘Show my beach photos from last year’ or ‘Find Diwali pictures.’ Suggestion Chips are also available to provide quick options for task completion. The AI search function, which operates using natural language, is currently active in the US and will soon expand to over 100 countries, facilitating easier photo discovery without extensive scrolling.
