Kolkata, May 11 (). Candidates protesting against alleged irregularities in the recruitment of non-teaching staff in Group-D category in government schools in West Bengal have moved the Calcutta High Court on Thursday seeking permission to hold a protest rally. They have sought permission from the cart to lead a protest rally till Kalighat near CM Mamata Banerjee’s residence.
The protest rally is scheduled to start from Sahid Minar on May 17 afternoon and end at Kalighat near the Chief Minister’s residence. The protesters had sought permission from the police for the rally. However, the police refused permission for the rally citing security reasons. The protesters then approached the single-judge bench of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha.
Justice Mantha has allowed the plea and listed the matter for further hearing on May 15. Recently, Justice Mantha has questioned the reluctance of the state administration to allow protest rallies and meetings.
Justice Mantha also said that it is quite unfortunate that every time some group or individuals have to approach the Calcutta High Court because the police have not given them permission.
