Guwahati, April 16 (). Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah was found to be Kovid-19 positive on Sunday.
Health officials have said that there are only two active cases of Covid in Assam including Barah.
State Health Minister Keshab Mahant said, though Assam has almost negligible number of Covid positive cases, yet the state is prepared to deal with the surge in cases.
He said, we have increased our preparations. Assam is doing well and there is no need to panic. The tests have been done regularly, and positive cases are almost negligible.
A state health department official told that frequent foreign flights are the root cause of rising infection rates in some parts of the country.
Kerala and Maharashtra are popular departure points for frequent international travel, the official said. As a result, we have seen an increase in the number of cases that usually start in these two states. Since Delhi is the centre, the number of positive cases is more there.
Meanwhile, Dr. Abhijit Sarma, Superintendent of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), said, the pattern of increase in Covid-19 cases starts from South India and North India, gradually moving towards Northeast.
