The Haryana Vidhan Sabha unanimously passed a resolution today to pay heartfelt tributes to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji on the occasion of his 350th Martyrdom Day. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini moved the resolution during the ongoing monsoon session, emphasizing that this year marks the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru, known as ‘Hind Ki Chaadar’. The House expressed deep reverence for the supreme sacrifice made by Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji and resolved to commemorate this historic occasion respectfully. In November 1675, at Chandni Chowk, Delhi, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji sacrificed his life to defend the right to freedom of faith and conscience.
His devoted followers, Bhai Mati Das Ji, who was sawn alive; Bhai Sati Das Ji, who was burnt alive; and Bhai Dayala Ji, who was boiled alive, also displayed unwavering faith in their martyrdom. Their sacrifices symbolize courage, righteousness, and steadfast devotion. The Chief Minister highlighted that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji gave his life to uphold humanity’s dignity and safeguard religious freedom. When Kashmiri Pandits sought refuge from forced conversions at Anandpur Sahib, Guru Sahib chose to sacrifice himself so they could live with honor and maintain their faith.
Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji had a significant connection with Haryana, visiting places like Kurukshetra, Pehowa, Kaithal, Jind, Ambala, Cheeka, and Rohtak, where he spread his message of truth, tolerance, and fearlessness. Gurdwaras established in these areas, such as Gurdwara Sri Dhamtan Sahib and Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib in Jind, and Gurdwara Sri Sheeshganj Sahib in Ambala, serve as enduring reminders of his teachings. The Chief Minister also acknowledged Bhai Jaita Ji’s bravery in carrying the severed head of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji from Delhi to Anandpur Sahib, recounting how he traversed Haryana, receiving support from local residents. This reinforces Haryana’s deep-rooted association with the martyrdom of Guru Sahib.
He remembered the sacrifice of Shaheed Kushal Singh Dahiya from Badkhalsa village, who, when Bhai Jaita Ji was surrounded by Mughal forces, offered his life to ensure the safe passage of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s head to Anandpur Sahib. This House honors the courageous acts of Shaheed Kushal Singh Dahiya. The martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji, Bhai Dayala Ji, and Kushal Singh Dahiya represents a significant chapter in national history and a universal symbol of resistance against oppression. Their bravery continues to inspire the pursuit of justice, truth, and dharma.
The assembly believes that the best tribute to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s sacrifice is to spread his teachings among the citizens of Haryana, ensuring the state’s legacy of cooperation and brotherhood endures.
