Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area developed over the Bay of Bengal on Monday, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall to various regions in Odisha, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). As stated in a bulletin, this low-pressure system formed in the morning under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Bay of Bengal. Another low-pressure area is anticipated over east-central and adjacent north Bay of Bengal around September 25. Both weather systems are expected to cause heavy rain in Odisha until September 27. Squally weather, with wind speeds of 40-50 km/h and gusts up to 60 km/h, may also affect the Odisha coast and north Bay of Bengal from September 21-25, the bulletin added.
Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts are predicted to experience heavy to very heavy rain, along with lightning and gusty surface winds of 30-40 km/h. The IMD has issued an ‘orange’ warning (indicating preparedness) for these two districts. Rainfall is expected across Odisha on September 22.
