Dakshina Kannada, May 19 (). BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal said on Friday that Hindu activists fear that the Taliban government is taking over Karnataka.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Hindu activists admitted in a hospital after alleged police torture, BJP MLA Yatnal said Hindu activists were massacred during the earlier Congress rule. Now the government is being formed with the same leadership, which is creating fear among Hindu workers.
Yatnal said, Hindu and BJP workers were thrashed in the DSP’s office. They are not Taliban or have not carried out anti-national activities. This will not increase the prestige of the police department.
He further said that we need to ensure that there is no mistake from our side. We Hindus don’t bother others. We are not against any religion. Our struggle is for Hindutva.
He said that if the police try to persecute Hindu workers thinking that the Congress party has come to power, it will not be tolerated. BJP and Hindu workers are no different. It is the responsibility of BJP to protect Hindus.
Yatnal further said that whenever there is a complaint, there should be an inquiry. An inquiry should be conducted and action should be initiated against the lower level officers as well as the DSP.
The BJP MLA further said that I will convey the sentiments of the workers to the central leadership. I am giving one lakh rupees for the treatment of injured workers. We are sorry and have learned the truth and will pass it on to the appropriate authorities. I will always be with you.
I also represent a seat where Muslim voters are in large numbers. The party will take a decision according to the wishes of the party workers. There is no need to be afraid.
He said that I have spoken to the state BJP president. Caretaker Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has spoken to the DGP. This is a painful and shameful matter. The issue of ticket allocation is a cause of confusion.
He said that the days ahead are going to be difficult. There may be attacks on our party workers. We should introspect and apologize for any mistake. We will not leave if this government turns out to be anti-Hindu.
He also condemned the third degree treatment meted out to Hindu activists. Police have registered an FIR against Puttur DSP and three policemen of Puttur rural police station in connection with the case. Dakshina Kannada SP Vikram Amte had visited the police station and the matter is being investigated by Bantwal DSP.
