Patna, April 26 (). The Central IAS Association on Tuesday expressed deep disappointment over the Bihar government’s decision to release Anand Mohan Singh, convicted for the brutal murder of the then District Magistrate of Gopalganj G. Krishnaiah.
The New Delhi-based association said in a statement that the charge of murder of a public servant on duty cannot be reclassified to a less heinous category of conviction.
Amending an existing classification, which led to the acquittal of a convicted murderer of a public servant on duty, amounts to a denial of justice, arguing that such dilution demoralises the public servants, undermines public order, and makes a travesty of the administration of justice.
We strongly request the state government of Bihar to reconsider its decision at the earliest, the statement said.
The Bihar government amended the law relating to prisoners and released 27 people, including Bahubali leader Anand Mohan Singh, who were serving life sentences for the murder of Krishnaya on December 5, 1994.
Krishnaya was returning from Patna after an official meeting and reached Muzaffarpur when supporters of underworld don Chhotan Shukla were taking his body to the crematorium. They attacked his car and beat him to death. Anand Mohan was part of the funeral procession and the Muzaffarpur police charge sheet accused him of inciting supporters to commit the lynching.
