Kolkata: On Saturday, police reported the death of another student at IIT Kharagpur in West Bengal. The body of a research student was discovered in the B.R. Ambedkar Hall at the institute. Authorities from the Hijli outpost, part of the Kharagpur Town police station, recovered the body. The deceased has been identified as Harsh Kumar Pandey, a 24-year-old PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering from Jharkhand. An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. According to a senior officer from Kharagpur Town police, the body was found hanging and has been sent for an autopsy.
Initially, it appears to be a suicide, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy results, and whether foul play was involved remains to be seen. The student’s family has been notified of this unfortunate event.
