Surendranagar, May 27 (). The Gujarat Police has seized over 26 machines used for illegal extraction of minerals from government land in Jamwadi area of Surendranagar district.

In the raid conducted on the government land on Thursday, important information regarding the theft of minerals has come to light. The targeted action took place in Jamwadi area, resulting in seizure of 26 mining machines worth approximately Rs 20 lakh.

Police Inspector, K.B. Based on information about illegal activities in government-owned land in Surendranagar, we raided there on Friday, Vihol said. Though we could not nab the criminals, we seized the machines used by them. The gang members were digging minerals from a mine at a depth of about 200 feet. The issue of theft of minerals has become a persistent issue, causing considerable concern to the authorities and local residents. However, no arrests have been made in seven-eight raids so far.

Several laborers were reportedly employed with these machines to extract the minerals. Despite several complaints, the police station has failed to catch anyone involved in the theft. However, during the raid, the police successfully seized 26 machines that were digging minerals from a depth of about 200 feet.

The seizure of mining machines has raised more questions on the mining department. Questions have been raised about their ability to curb illegal mining activities and bring the guilty to book.

While the police have taken immediate action, the mining department’s response to the incident remains questionable, as no concrete measures have been seen from their side so far.

The officials stressed the need for strict vigilance and collaborative efforts between the law enforcement agencies and the mining department to combat the menace of mining pilferage.
