Bengaluru, May 13 (). In Karnataka, the Congress registered a historic win on Saturday. But some of the party’s candidates won with small margins of less than 300 votes, including former state unit chief Dinesh Gundu Rao.
According to the Election Commission, Rao, who is contesting from the Gandhinagar Assembly seat, will be joined by BJP candidate Saptagiri Gowda A.R. Managed to win by the smallest margin (105 votes) in the state against. On the other hand, Congress state chief D.K. Shivakumar, from his Kanakapura seat, defeated his JD-S rival B.K. Nagaraju by a margin of 122,392 votes, pushing the BJP to third place.
In another closely fought contest, TD Rajagouda of INC defeated DN Jeevarai of BJP by a margin of 201 votes from Sringeri assembly seat. Congress’s K.Y. Nanjegowda, BJP’s K.S. Magunta Gowda was defeated by a narrow margin of 248 votes.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Soumya Reddy asked BJP’s C.K. Ramamurthy from Jayanagar assembly constituency by a margin of 294 votes. BJP’s Dinkar Keshav Shetty defeated JD-S’s Suraj Naik Soni by a margin of 676 votes in Kumta assembly seat.
The Congress has won 136 seats in the southern state. Whereas, BJP has won 65 seats and JD-S has won 19 seats. Of the remaining four, two smaller parties (one each) and two independents won.
Karnataka went to polls for the 224-member assembly on May 10 and the results were declared on May 13.
