Increasing seizure of party drugs reveals its popularity among the youth

New Delhi, April 2 (). In recent years, Delhi has seen an increase in the use of party drugs among the youth. In this, MDMA, LSD and cocaine are the most commonly used drugs. This can have serious side effects.

According to sources, the recovery of drugs in Delhi has increased one and a half times in a year. MDMA, more commonly known as ecstasy or molly, is one of the most popular party drugs in town. It is a synthetic drug.

This drug is often consumed at rave parties, clubs and concerts. It is usually sold in the form of small tablets or capsules, and the price ranges from Rs 500 to Rs 3,000 per tablet.

LSD or Acid, which is also a hallucinogenic drug, is also becoming increasingly popular among the youth. It can cause hallucinations, altered thinking, and a distorted sense of time.

Cocaine, another party drug. It is usually snorted through the nose or injected into a vein and can cause long-term health problems, including heart attack and stroke.

In March, Delhi Police’s crime branch arrested three people, including two Nigerian nationals, and recovered party drugs, including 51 grams of cocaine, 92 grams of MDMA, 157 grams of heroin and 88 tablets of ecstasy, worth crores of rupees from them .

The accused have been identified as Baljit (29), a resident of Chhatarpur, Beneth Chukwudi alias Michael (43), a resident of Mehrauli, and Daniel Chukwujekvu (31), a resident of Maidan Garhi in south Delhi.

The official said that Michael had come to India in 2011 and has been living illegally since then.

The main supplier, Michael, only recruited Nigerians into his gang who were in dire need of money.

The officer said, he used to buy drugs from a Nigerian national named Max, who has now gone back to Nigeria and is managing the supply from Nigeria over phone.

Deputy Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau Gyaneshwar Singh said that there are many channels through which drugs enter India.

Delhi is supplied with charas from Nepal, Himachal, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir, cocaine is smuggled from Latin America, and synthetic drugs are transported mainly by human carriers and couriers.

Various types of drugs are available in Delhi through these transit points, Singh said. Unfortunately, as per our intelligence, drug abuse is prevalent in all areas of Delhi including restaurants, bars, pubs and among general public. Dwarka and Greater Noida areas become hotspots for foreigners dealing in consumption and supply of contraband.

While these drugs are available only through middlemen on delivery or through contact with smugglers, some drugs, especially bhang or ganja, are easily available for Rs 100 to Rs 5,000 at various hotspots including JJ clusters and parks across the city. are available.

correspondent visited several places across the city and found that drugs and illicit liquor are being sold openly in these colonies.

In slum-dwelling areas including Lajpat Nagar and Rajokri in South Delhi, peddlers openly sell ganja.

correspondent also found that whenever there is a shortage of the drug, some peddlers mix Avil tablets and other chemicals in the ganja.

Hotspots for drug peddlers and distributors include Madan Giri, Subhash Nagar, RK Puram, INA, Khirki Extension, Malviya Nagar, Munirka and JJ clusters in Jahangirpuri, Dwarka, Uttam Nagar and Rohini.

Most of the peddlers and distributors also operate in areas close to North Campus such as Majnu Ka Tila, Kashmere Gate, Nirankari Colony opposite Indra Vikas and Shastri Park.

According to a senior police officer, these drug addicts often commit crimes to fulfill their drug needs.

Most of the robbers and snatchers caught by the Delhi Police are drug addicts and young, the official said.

Delhi Police is cracking down on drug peddlers and distributors to curb the use of party drugs. They have conducted several raids and seized huge quantity of illegal drugs in the city.

However, more needs to be done to provide support to people struggling with drug addiction.
