In light of rising unrest in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), India has urged the international community to take action against Pakistan for its serious human rights violations in the area. During a media briefing, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), stated that the protests and associated violence are a direct result of Pakistan’s repressive policies and resource exploitation in PoK. Significant protests, primarily organized by the Awami Action Committee (AAC), have erupted in Rawalakot, Mirpur, Kotli, and Neelum Valley, representing the largest demonstrations in years.
The unrest is driven by calls to eliminate reserved legislative seats for Kashmiri refugees and to safeguard fundamental rights, leading to at least 10 fatalities and a halt to internet and phone services. The MEA stressed that Pakistan must be held accountable for its actions in PoK, reaffirming that these areas remain under “forcible and illegal occupation.” This escalating situation highlights deep-seated grievances among the populace and reflects broader regional tensions.
