India reiterated its established stance on Kashmir, emphasizing that there is no room for third-party involvement or mediation. Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), addressed this issue in response to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s remarks regarding Kashmir during the ongoing United Nations General Assembly. “Our statement on Kashmir is clear. Everyone is aware of our position on Kashmir over the past few years,” he stated at the weekly media briefing. The MEA spokesperson also conveyed India’s support for a comprehensive and lasting resolution for North Cyprus within the United Nations framework. “Regarding North Cyprus, our External Affairs Minister met with the Cyprus Foreign Minister, where they discussed this matter.
The External Affairs Minister expressed India’s support for a comprehensive and lasting settlement in accordance with the agreed UN framework,” he added. On Wednesday, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar met with Cyprus’s counterpart Constantinos Kombos at the sidelines of the 80th UNGA session, reaffirming support for a lasting settlement of the Cyprus issue. “It’s always great to meet FM Constantinos Kombos of Cyprus. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations since PM Narendra Modi’s successful visit. We reaffirmed our support for a comprehensive and lasting resolution of the Cyprus Question in line with the agreed UN framework and relevant UNSC resolutions. I look forward to welcoming him in India soon,” Jaishankar shared on X.
Kombos expressed his gratitude for India’s enduring support on the Cyprus issue and looked forward to visiting India. In a post on X, he stated, “New York — It’s always a distinct pleasure to meet with India’s Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar. Our discussions focused on further steps in the Cyprus-India strategic partnership, relevant international issues, and the priorities of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council. I am grateful for India’s longstanding principled support on the Cyprus issue and its commitment to upholding international law.
