Mumbai: In anticipation of India Maritime Week 2025, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal presented a significant vision for the country’s blue economy during a press briefing in Mumbai. He revealed a comprehensive roadmap aimed at attracting an investment of ₹80 lakh crore and generating 1.5 crore maritime jobs by the year 2047. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, as India makes swift advancements towards green shipping, carbon-neutral ports, and technological innovations. Sonowal emphasized that India Maritime Week 2025 will act as an international platform for maritime partnerships, investment, and innovation, with participation from over 100 countries and more than 500 exhibitors.
He noted that since 2014, cargo movement via inland waterways has surged eightfold, and turnaround times at major ports have decreased by 60%, signifying a remarkable transformation in India’s maritime industry.
