New Delhi: India secured a 10-wicket victory over Sri Lanka after the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup – Cricket for the Blind 2025 was officially launched by former union sports minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday at the Modern School Ground. The opening ceremony featured the national anthem performed in sign language by specially-abled students from the Delhi branch of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. During the inauguration, Thakur expressed his wishes for all teams, stating, “I wish all the teams the best of luck for the World Cup. You may give your best and perform well. We are going to watch you on television.” Following the ceremony, India faced Sri Lanka and started their tournament with a win.
Sri Lanka chose to bat first but was limited to only 41 runs in 13.3 overs, thanks to an outstanding performance from India’s bowlers and fielders. India’s exceptional fielding resulted in seven run outs, and Deepika TC, Ganga Kadam, and Jamuna Rani Tudu each took a wicket. In response, India swiftly chased down the target, scoring 43 runs without losing a wicket in just three overs.
