On September 3, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration between industry and academia to establish India as a global leader in technology and sustainable development. Speaking at the Samanvay industry-academia engagement program held at IIT Kanpur, he highlighted the significance of the theme “coordination”. The discussions on Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Sustainability, he noted, would not only foster innovation but also enhance the quality of life for citizens. Adityanath stated that such collaborations are essential for addressing global challenges and for building a developed and self-reliant India. Reflecting on India’s economic history, he pointed out that the nation’s contribution to global GDP was 25% until the 17th century, which drastically decreased to 2% by 1947.
He attributed the recent economic reforms for advancing India to the position of the world’s fourth-largest economy, with the potential to become the third-largest within two years. He commended IIT Kanpur for its pivotal role in technology over the past sixty years and encouraged it to lead in developing India’s first Deep-Tech India 2025 model, for which land has already been allocated. Furthermore, he requested the institute’s assistance in enhancing cyber security, mentioning that cyber police stations have been established in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, along with a State Cyber and Forensic Institute.
Adityanath remarked that Uttar Pradesh has transformed from its previous “BIMARU” status to becoming the country’s second-largest economy, attributed to improved law and order, investment, and infrastructure. He cited the successful implementation of tap water access in Bundelkhand, which has significantly increased farm incomes. He also noted the record planting of 240 crore saplings over eight years, as confirmed by the Forest Research Institute, contributing to increased forest cover. The CM urged industries to reinvest in innovation rather than focusing solely on profit. He recalled IIT Kanpur’s contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and its involvement in the Defence Corridor and Med-Tech Centre, emphasizing that coordinated efforts would restore India’s standing as a global leader.
The event was attended by Cabinet Minister Rakesh Sachan, IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Manindra Agarwal, TCS CTO Dr. Harry Queen, and Deputy Director Prof. Brajbhushan. In conjunction with the CM’s visit, the first National DeepTech Conference – DeepTech Bharat 2025 was inaugurated at IIT Kanpur. This conference, featuring participation from organizations like DRDO, ISRO, and MeitY, along with over 200 venture capital firms, focuses on fields such as AI, Semiconductors, Quantum Technology, Space Tech, and Biosciences. It also launched DeepTech Policy 2035, India’s first deep-tech accelerator, and the country’s first AI co-pilot.
The initiative aims to position Uttar Pradesh as India’s first deep-tech-ready state and to contribute to achieving a $1 trillion economy while providing opportunities for startups and youth from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
