ISIS-linked terror module busted in Jabalpur, 3 arrested

Bhopal, May 27 (). The National Investigation Agency (NIA) claimed to have busted a terror module linked to ISIS in a joint operation with Madhya Pradesh Police’s Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) with the arrest of three persons.

According to an official press note, the central agency along with an ATS team of Madhya Pradesh Police raided 13 places in Jabalpur district, about 300 km from Bhopal, on the intervening night of May 26 and 27.

The press note further states, the three arrested have been identified as Syed Mamoor Ali, Mohd Adil Khan and Mohd Shahid. A huge cache of edged weapons, ammunition (including prohibited bore), incriminating documents and digital devices were also seized during the searches.

The NIA during investigation found that pro-ISIS activities were being conducted by Mohammad Adil Khan, which came to the notice of the agency in August 2022. After this, on May 24, after investigation, a case was registered.

The NIA press note said, it has been learned that ISIS propaganda through social media platforms as well as grassroots advocacy programs to carry out violent terrorist attacks in India at the behest of Mohd Adil Khan and his associates ISIS- involved in dissemination. The members of the module used to hold meetings in local mosques and homes and plan and plot to spread terror in the country.

Further investigation revealed that all the three accused are highly radicalized and have procured arms and ammunition for the purpose of raising funds for carrying out violent Jihad, disseminating ISIS propaganda material, motivating and recruiting youth and carrying out terrorist activities. Were engaged in trying to buy ammo.

According to the press note, Syed Mamoor Ali had formed a local group (Tanjim) by the name of Fisabilillah and was also operating a WhatsApp group with the same name. He was in touch with his associates present in Jabalpur to buy the pistol.

A staunch ISIS supporter, Adil had managed to create an active group of like-minded radicalized individuals in Jabalpur. According to the NIA investigation, some members of the module were already contemplating Hijrat (emigration), while others had plans to stay in India and form a local outfit to carry out violent jihad.

Adil was also running several YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp channels to motivate and recruit youth to join ISIS, the NIA said. Investigation revealed that Shahid had planned to procure several illegal weapons including pistols and even IEDs and grenades.
