During the 4th Kautilya Economic Conclave, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar characterized the current global landscape as paradoxical, where risk-taking and efforts to mitigate risks coexist, presenting intricate challenges for policymakers globally. He noted that various global developments are pushing nations towards increased risk while simultaneously urging them to seek ways to reduce those risks in both political and economic contexts. “The situation is akin to elevating the height of the trapeze while daily removing the safety net. This reflects the current state of international politics,” Jaishankar stated, highlighting the escalating instability in global affairs. His remarks pointed to the delicate equilibrium that governments must strike when navigating economic opportunities, geopolitical tensions, and uncertainties on the international front.
The conclave, now in its fourth iteration, convenes policymakers, economists, and business leaders to tackle urgent economic issues—ranging from inflation and supply chain challenges to the wider geopolitical threats influencing the global economy.
