Koppala (Karnataka), May 2 (). An elderly woman and her 20-day-old granddaughter were killed when their house collapsed due to incessant rains in Karnataka’s Jeerala village on Tuesday.
According to the police, the deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Fakiramma and her granddaughter. While Kanakamma, the mother of the newborn, sustained injuries in the incident. Whereas the father narrowly escaped in the incident.
Locals said that the incident took place due to continuous rains in the area for the last two days.
Kankamma is undergoing treatment at the Gangavathi Government Hospital.
North Karnataka region has been receiving heavy rains since last week.
Last week, due to heavy rain and hailstorm in Kalburgi, Rahul Gandhi’s public meeting had to be cancelled.
Amit Shah had to cancel his roadshow in Devanahalli on the outskirts of Bengaluru recently for the same reason.
