KCR urges PM Modi to withdraw ordinance on Delhi service matters

Hyderabad, May 27 (). Chief Minister of Telangana K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withdraw the ordinance promulgated to nullify the Supreme Court’s order handing over control of services in the national capital to the Delhi government.

Describing the ordinance as an insult to the mandate given by the people of Delhi, he announced that the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) would oppose the bill in Parliament to be brought by the Center to convert the ordinance into a law.

KCR said this while addressing a joint press conference with his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Kejriwal and Mann had met KCR to seek the support of the BRS against the Center passing an ordinance giving more powers to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi as administrator.

KCR said, we demand the Prime Minister to withdraw the ordinance. Don’t make it an issue unnecessarily. Let the government elected by the people of Delhi work.

He alleged that the Modi government has insulted the people of Delhi by issuing the ordinance as they have given the mandate to the Aam Aadmi Party government to work.

KCR criticized the Modi government for not respecting the Supreme Court order, saying it was a step towards Emergency. In fact, this situation is worse than the Emergency. The Center should come to its senses and withdraw the ordinance.

Asserting that the people of Karnataka had taught a lesson to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), KCR said people of other states would also teach it a lesson in the coming elections, remarking that when something goes wrong, the whole of India answers. Is.

The BRS leader said, what will happen to the country if the Government of India itself does not respect the decision of the Supreme Court? In which direction do you want to take the country?

He alleged that the Modi government at the Center was creating problems in states with non-BJP governments in various ways, such as withholding funds from the Center and misusing the office of the Governor.

Thanking KCR for his support, Kejriwal recalled that AAP had formed its first government in February 2015 and in May the same year the Center had brought an ordinance taking away the government’s powers in service matters.

He said, we kept going round the courts for eight years fighting against it. When a larger bench of the Supreme Court ordered 5-0 in favor, the Center issued an ordinance to nullify it. When PM will not follow the order of Supreme Court, then what will be the meaning of Supreme Court and where will people go for justice.

The AAP leader said the Prime Minister is giving a message to the people that if the government is elected against their will, they will not let it continue.

This is happening all over the country, he said. They are toppling non-BJP governments by buying MLAs or using ED and CBI against them or misusing governors.

Describing it as a dangerous situation for the country, Kejriwal said that his fight is not just for Delhi, but for the entire country and to save democracy.

We are going across the country to seek support from various parties, he said. We want to defeat the bill if it is brought in the Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha has 238 MPs and BJP has only 93 MPs. When the opposition parties unite to defeat the bill, it will be a semi-final before the 2024 elections.

Bhagwant Mann said that when the governor refused to convene the budget session in Punjab, the AAP government had to approach the Supreme Court.
