In Kanpur, a law student’s stomach was cut open and two fingers severed following a violent altercation with a pharmacy owner, according to police reports. Three individuals, including the pharmacy owner, have been apprehended in connection with the incident that occurred in the Rawatpur area, while a search is ongoing for a fourth suspect. Abhijeet Singh Chandel, a 22-year-old first-year LLB student from Keshavpuram, visited a local pharmacy where he had a disagreement with the owner, Amar Singh Chauhan, regarding the pricing of medication. The situation escalated when Chauhan, along with his brother Vijay Singh and two accomplices, allegedly attacked Chandel. Armed with a chopper, they inflicted severe injuries on him, striking his head and abdomen.
Chandel collapsed on the street, bleeding profusely, as the assailants fled the scene. Bystanders provided immediate assistance, and Chandel’s family used a cloth to bind his intestines before transporting him to a hospital. Despite visiting four hospitals that refused to admit him due to the severity of his injuries, he was eventually taken to Regency Hospital, where a two-hour surgery was performed, resulting in 14 stitches on his head. Chandel’s mother, Neelam Singh Chandel, alleged that the attackers had connections within the police, as a false extortion case was filed against her and her son that same night. She criticized the police for not detaining the perpetrators of the brutal assault.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Ranjeet Kumar, Chauhan, Singh, and Tiwari have been charged with attempted murder, while efforts continue to locate the fourth suspect, Prince Srivastava. Initially, an extortion case was lodged against Chandel based on Chauhan’s allegations, but a new case was opened following the revelation of the assault’s true nature.
