In Kanpur, a law student sustained severe injuries, including a split stomach and severed fingers, following a violent altercation with a pharmacy owner, as reported by police. Three individuals, including the shop owner, have been arrested in connection with the incident that occurred in the Rawatpur area, while a fourth suspect is still being sought. The victim, Abhijeet Singh Chandel, a 22-year-old first-year LLB student from Keshavpuram, visited the pharmacy near his home and engaged in a dispute over medication pricing with Amar Singh Chauhan, the shop owner. The argument escalated, and Chauhan, along with his brother Vijay Singh and their accomplices, allegedly attacked Chandel with a chopper, inflicting grave injuries.
Chandel was left bloodied and collapsed on the street as the assailants fled the scene. Local residents provided assistance, and Chandel’s family used a cloth to secure his intestines before rushing him to various hospitals. However, four facilities refused to admit him due to the severity of his injuries. Eventually, he was admitted to Regency Hospital, where a two-hour surgery was performed, resulting in 14 stitches to his head. Chandel’s mother, Neelam Singh Chandel, alleged that the attackers had connections within the police force and wrongfully filed an extortion case against her and her son on the same night.
She expressed frustration that instead of apprehending the individuals responsible for the attack, the police targeted her son, who is in critical condition. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ranjeet Kumar confirmed that Chauhan, Singh, and Tiwari have been charged with attempted murder, while the fourth suspect, Prince Srivastava, remains at large. An initial extortion complaint against Chandel was registered but was later retracted once the details of the assault were uncovered.
