Lucknow, May 19 (). Lucknow’s prestigious Amir-ud-Daulah Public Library is now 100 per cent digitized with 24,000 rare and ancient books and eight lakh pages of manuscripts. The library has more than 1.6 lakh books. The process of digitization of the library was started in 2020 under the Smart City Project.
Shashi Kala, head librarian of Amir-ud-Daula Public Library, said a private company Informatics Publishing was given the job, which was completed in two phases.
Some rare manuscripts, which are 300-400 years old, have also been digitized and improved for readability with even 300 dpi (dots per inch) quality, said Raj Aryan, facilities manager at Informatics Publications. .
Any student having library membership can access the library website online and take advantage of all these books, he added. Nearly 1,000 e-newspapers and magazines can also be accessed here.
A self-help kiosk has also been installed in the library along with digitization.
At this kiosk a member can issue a book by punching a card without the help of others. A sensor machine has been installed at the exit of the gate, and a siren will sound if any book is taken out of the premises without being issued.
