Maharashtra Congress demands special legislature session to discuss key issues

A delegation led by state Congress president Nana Patole, Ashok Chavan, AICC secretary Ashish Dua, Naseem Khan, Devanand Pawar, Hussain Dalwai, Anees Ahmed, Raju Waghmare, Amar Rajurkar and others met Governor Ramesh Bais and submitted a memorandum.

He reiterated the demand to appoint an inquiry headed by a High Court judge into the Navi Mumbai tragedy of April 16, in which at least 14 people died due to heatwave, terming it as state-sponsored murder and for this the state government held responsible.

The delegation pointed out how the proposed RRPL project with Arab help was being imposed on the people of Barsu despite strong opposition from the local villagers.

Another issue raised was the distress of farmers following the recent unseasonal rains and hailstorms that ravaged large parts of the state, destroying large swaths of agricultural land.

Farmers have been devastated by the effects of climate change, they are not getting timely help and government policies are promoting farmer suicides in Maharashtra, Patole said.

He also called for relaxing the CIBIL score clause, which has dissuaded many farmers from availing agricultural loans.

Chavan raised the issue of increasing the reservation limit beyond 50 per cent to implement Maratha quota and cited the example of Chhattisgarh.

We have requested the governor to convene a special assembly session at the earliest to discuss all these urgent issues, Patole said after the Raj Bhavan meeting.
