Mumbai, May 11 (). Reacting strongly, the Maharashtra Congress on Thursday said the Supreme Court verdict has proved that the BJP is dangerous for democracy and can stoop to any extent to grab power.
State Congress President Nana Patole said, the Supreme Court has made serious remarks on various things including every action of (then) Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari in toppling the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. We have been continuously saying that the Raj Bhavan was misused by the BJP to topple our government.
Patole termed the Supreme Court’s decision declaring the present government illegal and unconstitutional as a slap on the ruling government of the state. He said that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and Speaker Rahul Narvekar should resign on moral grounds.
The state Congress chief said that not only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) misused the Raj Bhavan, but also other agencies to topple the MVA government and now all those decisions are proving wrong.
Patole said, it is clear from the observations of the Supreme Court while giving the verdict that the BJP has distanced itself from democracy. It is dangerous and they can stoop to any level to grab power.
He reiterated that central agencies and other constitutional offices have become puppets of the power-hungry BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and this is a real threat to democracy and the Constitution.
Congress chief spokesperson Atul Londhe said that the way the speaker (Rahul Narvekar) is reacting to the Supreme Court verdict, it seems that he is not impartial, but working for a party and he should be punished for his post. There is no moral right to remain.
Congress state general secretary Sachin Sawant said the former governor remained an RSS worker who had brought down the dignity of his post and the people of Maharashtra would never forgive the BJP for playing politics out of greed for power.
On the authority of the Speaker (Narvekar) to decide on the disqualification of the 16 MLAs, including Shinde, Patole said, he is expected to decide in an impartial manner.
Patole said, even though the Shinde-Fadnavis government has got a temporary relief and is now staying on technical grounds, the observations made by the Supreme Court are worrying as this regime has actually been declared illegal and unconstitutional.
