Maharashtra Doctor Commits Suicide, Accuses Police Officer of Rape

A doctor employed at a government hospital in Maharashtra’s Satara district has taken her own life, leaving a note on her palm that alleges rape and mental harassment by a police sub-inspector, according to police on Friday. The Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has communicated with Satara’s superintendent of police, Tushar Doshi, and has ordered the suspension of the sub-inspector mentioned in the note. The 28-year-old doctor, originally from Beed district and working in Phaltan tehsil, was discovered hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan late Thursday night. In her note, she claimed to have faced rape and mental abuse from the police sub-inspector and another individual over the past five months.
