A 40-year-old man has been detained for allegedly running over two individuals in Paharganj, central Delhi. The police seized his car, which was stained with blood. The incident occurred at approximately 2:20 AM on September 14, near the Rail Reservation Centre on Chelmsford Road, where the two victims were found injured and later taken to Lady Hardinge Medical College Hospital. They have been identified as Kalu Das, aged 50, and Anil Das, aged 48, both from Banka district in Bihar, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan. A case was filed at the Paharganj police station, leading to a dedicated team being formed to locate both the vehicle and the suspect.
CCTV footage captured a red car driving over the victims, who were lying near the footpath. Technical surveillance and inquiries revealed that only one red vehicle regularly operated in that area, registered to Govind Gupta, a resident of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The police examined Gupta’s call detail records and location data, which confirmed that he was near Munjiya Chowk in Paharganj during the incident. Following this, a raid was executed, resulting in Gupta’s arrest. The blood-stained car was also confiscated, and the accused has reportedly admitted to his involvement in the incident.
