Bhubaneswar, May 7 (). In Odisha’s Puri district, a person posing as Vigilance Department officer has been arrested for extorting money from several government officials.
The Special Task Force (STF) of the state police arrested Manoj Kumar Manjhi on Saturday.
Majhi posing as SP had demanded Rs 1 crore from the complainant (an Additional Chief Engineer) as well as other persons.
An STF official said on Sunday that based on the complaint, the STF raided Majhi’s village Phulbari and arrested him.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that he was trying to extort money from at least 15 government officials as well as some contractors by posing as a senior vigilance officer.
The official said that the STF suspects that the accused has also cheated some people by promising them government jobs.
Manjhi holds a PhD from Sambalpur University.
