New Delhi, April 26 (). Delhi’s Mayor Shaili Oberoi and her deputy Ale Mohammad Iqbal were re-elected on Wednesday. Before the election, BJP corporators Shikha Rai and Soni Pandey withdrew their nominations. AAP councilor Mukesh Goyal, who is presiding over the election, announced the results.
During the meeting BJP corporator from Greater Kailash Shikha Roy announced to withdraw her candidature.
He demanded that the standing committee should be constituted as per the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act.
When Mayor Oberoi, corporator of East Patel Nagar, asked the two deputy mayoral candidates whether they wanted to withdraw their candidature, Soni Pandey, BJP corporator of Sonia Vihar, pulled herself out of the race.
Both Oberoi and Iqbal were elected unopposed.
Following the successful completion of the mayoral election, the House was adjourned till May 2.
In the civic elections held on 4 December, the Aam Aadmi Party won 134 of the 250 municipal wards.
