During the Meta Connect 2025 event in Menlo Park, CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the company’s latest advancements in wearable technology, featuring the Ray-Ban Display Glasses, the more economical Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, and the Oakley Vanguard aimed at athletes. Unlike previous AR and VR attempts, these glasses focus on integrating Meta’s AI into daily life while maintaining the classic appearance of Ray-Bans. Zuckerberg emphasized that glasses are ideal for personal super intelligence, allowing users to remain present while accessing AI capabilities that enhance communication, memory, and sensory experiences. The Ray-Ban Display stands out with a discreet screen embedded in the lens, making information appear as if it is floating before the wearer’s eyes.
They retain a conventional look while incorporating advanced features like messaging, video calls, navigation, live captions, and real-time translation, thus keeping users connected without frequent phone use. Photography features include an integrated camera with a real-time viewfinder and framing tools. The display also enhances music playback, enabling control of playlists through subtle gestures, while navigation directions are overlaid onto the real world. Battery life is six hours, extending to 30 hours with the charging case, and the retail price is set at $799 (approximately ₹70,279), available from September 30 in the US at Best Buy, Verizon, and LensCrafters. Complementing the glasses is the Meta Neural Band, a wristband that converts subtle muscle signals into digital commands through advanced electromyography (EMG).
Trained on data from roughly 200,000 volunteers, it operates without calibration, allowing users to scroll, click, or write effortlessly. The band is IPX7 water-resistant, provides 18 hours of battery life per charge, and is made from Vectran, the same material used by NASA for Mars Rover landings. Importantly, all processing occurs on the device to ensure privacy and immediate feedback. For those seeking a more affordable option, the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 combines a familiar design with notable enhancements, priced at $379 (approximately ₹33,336), featuring brighter displays, sharper 3K video recording, and eight hours of battery life.
Future software updates will introduce slow-motion and hyperlapse video modes, and the Conversation Focus feature uses built-in open-ear speakers to amplify the voice of the conversation partner in noisy environments. With these innovations, Meta is progressing towards mainstream AI wearables, merging style, convenience, and advanced technology in eyewear.
