Microsoft has introduced a significant update to its 365 Copilot platform by incorporating Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1 models, in addition to offerings from OpenAI. This integration represents the first instance of Microsoft incorporating non-OpenAI models into Copilot. Initially, the Claude models will enhance two features: the Researcher agent, which manages complex queries, trend analysis, and report generation while utilizing live internet data and user files, and Copilot Studio, which allows users to create and personalize AI agents for various workflows, reasoning tasks, and automation processes. Users now have the ability to switch between Claude and OpenAI models via a model selector, providing enhanced flexibility.
This development follows Microsoft’s strengthened partnership with OpenAI and indicates a wider strategy to expand AI options available within Copilot.
