Minister Chirag Paswan Vows to Ensure Food Quality Amid Poisoning Incident

New Delhi: Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan on Tuesday pledged a comprehensive investigation into the food poisoning case that impacted approximately 200 individuals in northwest Delhi after they consumed buckwheat flour (‘kuttu ka atta’) during the ongoing Navratri fasting. Addressing the issue at a media briefing regarding the upcoming World Food India event, Paswan stated, “This matter does not fall directly under my ministry. However, it is our duty to investigate such occurrences. We will not compromise on the quality of processed foods.” The incident, reported early Tuesday morning, affected residents from various regions, including Jahangirpuri, Mahendra Park, Samaypur, Bhalswa Dairy, Lal Bagh, and Swaroop Nagar.

The Jahangirpuri Police Station was notified at 6:10 am about numerous individuals feeling unwell after consuming the flour. “Whenever the government receives such complaints, our officials and FSSAI conduct an investigation. We ensure thorough scrutiny for food adulteration,” Paswan remarked, highlighting the government’s strict stance on food safety violations. The minister expressed particular concern over the timing of the incident: “During the Navratri festival, kuttu ka atta is widely consumed. When such reports arise at this time, I assure you that an investigation will be undertaken.” Medical teams have quickly provided care and supportive treatment to those affected, with patients receiving treatment at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital.

Paswan criticized what he described as “the profit-making mindset of certain societal elements” who jeopardize public health for financial gain.
