New Delhi, May 23 (). Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with his JD-U president Lalan Singh, met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party president Rahul Gandhi on Monday, following which he announced a meeting of opposition parties.
Nitish Kumar’s meeting on Monday is seen as a major attempt to bring non-BJP, like-minded parties together ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
After the meeting, Congress General Secretary Organization K.C. Venugopal told the media, we will fix the date and place of the meeting of the opposition party. The date will be decided in a day or two. Most of the parties will participate in this.
JDU National President Rajeev Ranjan alias Lallan Singh said, opposition unity was discussed in today’s meeting. On the other hand, the date and program of the all-party meeting for opposition unity will be decided in a day or two. Which parties will be invited, its information will be given in due course.
In the meeting held at the Congress chief’s 10 Rajaji Marg residence, the leaders held discussions for an hour and brainstormed on chalking out a joint strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
However, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav did not attend the meeting on Monday. According to sources, he could not attend the meeting due to health reasons.
After meeting Nitish Kumar, Kharge tweeted that the country will now be united. The strength of democracy is our message. Rahul Gandhi and I discussed the current political situation with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today and discussed further. The process of giving a new direction to the country has started.
Earlier on April 12, Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav held a meeting for the first time to bring the opposition parties together.
With the landslide victory in Karnataka, the Congress has now got more bargaining power. It is being speculated that the party will not limit itself to around 200 seats and will seek to contest the maximum number of seats.
Kharge had earlier spoken to Stalin and several opposition leaders, including Shiv Sena-UBT leader and former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, to try to forge unity among like-minded parties to take on the BJP.
Nitish Kumar had met Soren, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, BJD leaders Naveen Patnaik, Uddhav Thackeray, NCP chief Sharad Pawar to bring them on a common platform.
