The National Investigation Agency has filed charges against ten individuals accused of trafficking a minor girl from Bangladesh into Odisha, as reported by officials on Tuesday. In the chargesheet submitted to a special NIA court in Bhubaneswar, the agency alleges that the accused lured the girl with job promises and subsequently forced her into immoral trafficking for profit. The investigation revealed that the traffickers exploited the girl’s family’s dire financial circumstances to carry out their scheme, uncovering a significant human trafficking operation. Initially, the Odisha police had submitted two chargesheets in a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court against six individuals, according to an NIA statement.
Following their takeover of the case, the NIA conducted searches across several locations in West Bengal and apprehended two additional suspects. The investigation into their social media accounts and financial dealings resulted in the capture of two of their accomplices, leading to the formal charges against all ten individuals.
