Mumbai, May 11 (). Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar along with his deputy Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday met Shiv Sena-UBT President and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar and State Congress Working President Naseem Khan. This is part of his efforts to form a grand alliance of all opposition parties.
After the meetings, Nitish Kumar said that if more and more opposition parties work together, a better alternative can be presented to the public against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Janata Dal-U leader Nitish Kumar said, when all the opposition will unite to fight, there will be a direct fight (against the BJP). We can get good success and the country can move in the right direction.
He said that what the BJP is doing is not good for the country and it is imperative for the opposition parties to work together and save democracy in India.
There should be no controversy, he said. Everyone should remain united with a single objective to work in the best interest of the country and give a choice in the next election.
Asked whether Pawar would be the main face of the opposition alliance, Nitish Kumar said nothing could be more pleasing than this and urged him to work more diligently for both his party and the country as a whole.
Khan welcomed the arriving dignitaries at the Mumbai airport and wished them well in their efforts to form a united opposition front, adding that Nitish Kumar had recently met top Congress leaders in New Delhi.
Earlier on Thursday morning, Nitish Kumar and Yadav, JD-U President Rajeev Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Devesh Chandra Thakur and Bihar Cooperation Minister Sanjay Kumar Jha were greeted with huge banners and posters on their maiden visit to Mumbai. Welcomed.
The two and others were welcomed in traditional Maharashtrian style at the Thackeray residence Matoshree in Bandra, where they had lunch with Uddhav and Aaditya Thackeray. MP Sanjay Raut was also present there.
Later, he went to Silver Oaks, Pawar’s residence in south Mumbai, where he was received by Sharad Pawar and his daughter Supriya Sule and others.
In the last few days, Nitish Kumar traveled across the country meeting top opposition party leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Arvind Kejriwal, Hemant Soren, Naveen Patnaik, Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Sitaram Yechury, D. Raja and others.
