Notion has launched Notion 3.0, featuring a new AI Agent designed to function as a reliable teammate, capable of performing a variety of tasks within the platform. This AI Agent is intended to take over responsibilities that users normally manage themselves, such as creating new pages, organizing databases, and retrieving updates from external applications like Slack or the internet. The aim is to enhance digital workspaces by making them smarter, faster, and more personalized, addressing the increasing reliance on automation to reduce repetitive tasks. According to cofounder Akshay Kothari, Notion’s AI Agent can manage nearly everything a human can within the platform. The AI Agent’s standout feature is its ability to remember users’ working styles.
Notion has developed editable profiles that capture learned behaviors and habits, which users can modify or reset at any time to ensure the AI aligns with their preferences. Users can also create multiple profiles, each with distinct behaviors, allowing the AI to adapt its functionality based on specific needs, whether for personal travel planning or assisting a marketing team with campaign strategies. Notion has outlined a variety of potential use cases for the AI Agent. On a personal level, it can help manage movie watchlists, organize travel plans, or keep track of favorite cafes. For professional tasks, it can draft campaign emails, consolidate team feedback into reports, and convert meeting notes into actionable items.
Kothari has previously demonstrated the tool’s versatility, showcasing applications like a personalized movie database with Rotten Tomatoes ratings and a log of visited coffee shops, illustrating that the AI Agent can integrate into both corporate and everyday settings. Another significant advancement is the agent’s capacity to operate independently for up to 20 minutes, allowing it to manage hundreds of pages concurrently. Unlike previous AI features that required continual user input, this upgrade enables the AI to autonomously plan and execute tasks, which could prove especially beneficial in large, complex environments. Looking ahead, Notion plans to expand personalization options.
While multiple profiles are currently supported, the company is working on advanced controls that will allow users to create fully customized AI teammates for specific roles or projects. With Notion 3.0, the company is not merely adding another feature; it is redefining collaboration with technology by combining automation with memory, adaptability, and independence, positioning its AI Agent as a genuine digital partner in both work and daily life.
