Chandigarh, April 23 (). Punjab Police Inspector General of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill has said that with the arrest of Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh, the warrant of the National Security Act (NSA) was executed on Sunday.
Gill told the media, NSA warrant was issued against Amritpal Singh and that warrant was executed this morning.
Amritpal Singh was arrested by the Punjab Police from village Rode at around 6.45 am on Sunday.
Amritpal Singh was absconding since March 18.
He categorically stated that the police had intelligence about the presence of Amritpal Singh in Rode village, following which a joint operation was launched.
Gill said, we had specific inputs that Amritpal Singh Rode was present in the village. He was surrounded, due to which he had no chance to escape.
Gill said, I want to clarify that he has been arrested. He hasn’t surrendered. Today’s operation was based on concrete and credible inputs. I would like to thank the people of Punjab for maintaining peace and communal harmony. He was taken to Dibrugarh Jail in Assam.
In a video taken shortly before his arrest, Amritpal Singh justifies his decision to escape from the Punjab Police, saying that in the last one month, the real face of the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government has come to the fore. He said, I may be an accused in the court, but not an accused in the court of the Almighty.
However, does not attest to the authenticity of the video.
