Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday urged citizens to help the State achieve a position among the top three in the nation for cleanliness. He made this appeal during a cleanliness initiative under the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, which took place near the Shree Lingaraj Temple. The event saw participation from the Mayor, ministers, MLAs, and community members, organized by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. This campaign was launched to commemorate the 110th birth anniversary of BJP thinker Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, who was born in Mathura and played a significant role in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the precursor to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Chief Minister also engaged in tree planting near the Devipadhara pond as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ initiative. Emphasizing Upadhyay’s vision, Majhi stated that the State government is dedicated to ensuring basic amenities for everyone. He remarked, “We all have to work to be in the top three places in the country in cleanliness,” and mentioned plans to generate coal from waste for energy production in the near future. Additionally, a mass cleanliness campaign, ‘Ek Din Ek Ghanta Ek Saath’, was effectively carried out at Kharabela Bhawan, a government facility. Concluding the event, Principal Secretary Usha Padhee led the participants in the Swachhata pledge, encouraging them to promote cleanliness within their communities and homes.
