Cuttack: On Thursday, Odisha’s DGP, Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, emphasized that maintaining communal harmony and ensuring the safety of women and children are the State police’s top priorities. He made these remarks while inaugurating the 70th State Police Duty Meet-2025 at Reserve Police Ground. The event features 282 competitors, 43 K9 warriors (dogs), and 43 handlers from 34 police districts, showcasing their policing skills. The meet will run until October 19. In his address to police officers, Khurania highlighted that crime prevention and investigation are fundamental responsibilities of law enforcement. He stressed that police play a crucial role in ensuring that offenders receive appropriate punishment.
If investigations are not conducted properly, there is a significant risk that perpetrators may evade justice, he noted, calling for improved conviction rates through scientific and technological methods. The DGP mentioned that effective investigative techniques have led to the swift identification and sentencing of accused individuals in POCSO cases. Additionally, the police have taken stringent measures against inter-State robbery gangs, arms smuggling, and the cultivation and trafficking of illegal substances. Khurania also referenced special operations such as “Prahar,” “Gaja,” “Chakra,” “Agni,” and “Garuda,” aimed at apprehending notorious criminals. Looking ahead, he stated that the police department will focus on enhancing the professional skills of personnel and developing expertise in forensic investigation and cybercrime.
“We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of our citizens, allowing them to live without fear or threat,” he concluded.
