New Delhi, May 20 (). Customs officials at the Chennai airport on Saturday said they have arrested a passenger who was allegedly trying to smuggle 1.8 kg gold worth Rs 96.8 lakh.
The customs official said that the accused reached Chennai airport from Dubai.
He was detained on the basis of his behaviour, the officer said. A search of his personal belongings led to the recovery of gold, which he was trying to smuggle.
The recovered gold has been confiscated under section 110 of the Customs Act, the official said. The said passenger has been arrested under section 104 of the Customs Act.
