Ahmedabad, May 2 (). More than 200 Gujarat residents returned home on Tuesday from trouble-torn African country Sudan.
Under Operation Kaveri, the Government of India sent a special flight to bring back 231 people from Sudan. The flight reached Sardar Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. There were 208 Gujaratis in this flight.
Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi greeted the people at the airport here. Last week, 56 Gujaratis returned to Mumbai airport in the first round under Operation Kaveri.
A medical team was arranged for 10 sick people. Besides this, 15 additional counters were set up to expedite the immigration process. A total of 360 Gujaratis have been brought back from Sudan through Operation Kaveri.
According to Minister of State for Home Harsh Shanghvi, of the 231 people who landed at SVPI airport, 208 are residents of Gujarat, 13 from Punjab and 10 from Rajasthan. He said that the State Government in coordination with the Center had arranged 5 air-conditioned Volvo buses for those wishing to travel to Rajkot.
