New Delhi: The winter session of Parliament is set to take place from December 1 to 19, as announced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday. He shared the news on X, expressing hope for a productive and meaningful session that will enhance democracy and address the people’s aspirations. Traditionally, the winter session starts in the third week of November and concludes before Christmas. Last year, it commenced on November 25 and wrapped up on December 20. Meanwhile, opposition leaders have criticized the government for the brief duration of this session.

Congress general secretary and chief whip in the Rajya Sabha, Jairam Ramesh, labeled the timing as ‘unusually delayed’ and ‘truncated.’ He questioned the government’s ability to conduct business, suggesting a lack of bills to pass and a reluctance to allow debate. Derek O’Brien, the Trinamool Congress’s Rajya Sabha Parliamentary leader, referred to it as ‘Parliament-ophobia,’ claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his team suffer from an intense fear of engaging with Parliament, which he argues sets a troubling precedent. The previous monsoon session ended on August 21, 2025, featuring the passage of 12 bills by the Lok Sabha and 14 by the Rajya Sabha during that month.
