Guwahati, May 28 (). The country’s northeast region will get its first Vande Bharat Express on Monday as the maiden journey of the first semi-high-speed train from Assam will be virtually flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. An official gave this information on Sunday.
Vande Bharat Express will run between Guwahati (Assam) and New Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) stations.
The train will pass through Kamrup Metropolitan, Kamrup Rural, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Kokrajhar districts of Assam and Alipurduar, New Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri districts of West Bengal, said Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). People of these areas will be able to take advantage of modern rail travel.
With the arrival of the Vande Bharat Express in Assam, the people of the Northeast, especially Assam, will be able to experience rail travel with speed and comfort, the NFR said in a statement.
As the semi-high speed train includes all the latest facilities, the difference can be well felt by the people of North East during the journey.
According to the railway authority, the fastest train on the New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati section will reduce the existing train travel time by about an hour. Sectors such as trade, tourism and travel of the region will be immensely benefitted.
The inaugural Vande Bharat Express will start from Guwahati at 12 noon on Tuesday and reach New Jalpaiguri at 6 pm. Regular services of the train will start from Wednesday.
Dey said: In its one-way journey, Vande Bharat Express will cover a distance of 411 kms in 5 hours 30 minutes. The composition of the train will be eight coaches with a seating capacity of 530 people.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the 91.03 kilometer long New Bongaigaon-Dudhnoi-Mendipathar newly electrified section.
With the electrification of this section, goods and passenger trains with electric traction can now enter Meghalaya from any part of our country.
The new electrified section of Guwahati-Chaparmukh 91 km is also being inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
Apart from this, Narendra Modi will also inaugurate a new DEMU/MEMU shed built recently at Lumding.
Dey said, since Lumding is the gateway to the hilly North Eastern states like Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur and other parts of Assam, this new facility will be helpful in operating DEMU rakes in the region, leading to better operational feasibility and passenger convenience.
